Advice to our Members
As members will note from the other warners on this page, unscrupulous organisations remain ready to try and mislead you into thinking that they are connected to RCI in order to sell their "services". In many cases these "services" are of very poor quality or simply non existent.
Typically, these organisations make use of cold calling or unsolicited emails and falsely claim to be from, or associated with, RCI. If you receive an unsolicited call or email from a person who claims to be contacting you from or with the agreement of RCI you should always ask, before doing anything else, that the details of your last exchange you arranged through RCI (eg where and when it was) be confirmed. If this is not answered satisfactorily then this suggests the organisation is not genuine and we strongly advise that you discontinue all contact immediately, do not disclose any personal details and do not purchase any services being offered. Please let RCI know if you receive any such suspicious calls or emails, so we can tell other members, and take what action we can to stop such action.
We also recommend that you consider contacting Mindtimeshare (www.mindtimeshare.com), who are a Consumer Association representing the interests of European consumers that have been victims of a fraud related to Timeshare. They will, with your agreement, use what you tell them to investigate further and take what action is possible so any suspected dishonest practice is publicised and stopped.
We believe that the above organisation (which is not a law firm) may have been in contact with a number of RCI Members. In particular, we understand that Praetorian offers to write to RCI on behalf of members in order to affect cancellations of their memberships.
Praetorian makes a charge for its services. We believe however that in the vast majority of cases members’ queries or concerns can be addressed quickly and without any charge if they speak to RCI directly.
We would therefore urge any members that are contacted by Praetorian not to agree to pay any money to them but to contact RCI instead.
Club Class/ ITRA/ RCI Action Group
Please click here to read the following press release relating to the winding up in the public interest of a number of companies linked to a concierge holiday scheme marketed by an organisation called International Timeshare Refund Action (ITRA) under the guise of asking people to join in legal action against the timeshare industry. Such action by the Insolvency Service is only taken where the evidence of wrong doing is considered a serious threat to the public interest. We would strongly advise all RCI members to seriously consider whether they wish to have any dealings with ITRA, as this organisation is not operating with a legitimate purpose in mind, as the actions of the Insolvency Service demonstrate.
We are aware that ITRA claims to have instigated legal action against RCI Europe and has been attempting to solicit members to join this action though various means, most recently, we are told, via an organisation called “RCI Action Group”. We can confirm that proceedings were issued against RCI Europe in the High Court in London by a number of current and former members. The case proceeded by way of 4 test claims. RCI strongly disputed the claims made and, in a judgment dated 20th October 2016, the Court found in favour of RCI on all claims.
www.timesharecompensation.co.uk (January 2017)
We are aware of the above claims website/business which, despite not being a law firm, purports to offer claims and compensation services to consumers. We note In particular, that there is a description on the website of the claims brought against RCI by the “RCI Action Group” which are referred to above. This description is grossly misleading and contains statements that are straightforwardly untrue. In particular, we would stress that the court found in favour of RCI, dismissed all the claims concerned and ordered the claimants to pay RCI’s costs.,br> We would urge our members not to have any involvement with this business.
Monster Rewards SL
We are aware that the timeshare sales site sellmytimeshare.tv (which is operated by the Spanish company Monster Rewards SL) contains numerous references to RCI and to our parent company Wyndham Worldwide.
Please note that neither RCI nor Wyndham Worldwide has any association at all with sellmytimeshare.tv or Monster Rewards SL. We do not endorse any product or service provided by sellmytimeshare.tv or Monster Rewards SL and the references to RCI and to Wyndham Worldwide on sellmytimeshare.tv have been made without our authority.
RCI International Madeira Regency Club February 2015
We have been made aware that at least one of our members at Madeira Regency Club has received an email from an organisation using the RCI logo and calling itself “RCI International”. The email asked the member concerned to transfer monies to a bank account in Spain, supposedly in relation to the payment of maintenance fees. The email was entirely fraudulent and RCI is not involved in the collection of maintenance fees.
We would ask our members, whether at the Madeira Regency Club or elsewhere to contact us immediately if they receive any similar communications and not to pay any sums requested.
EuropeanGetaways.co.uk (January 2015)
We have received reports that timeshare owners have been cold called by the above resale and travel provider, which appears to trade from premises at Westfields Level Road, Hawarden, Flintshire, UK, CH5 3JR.
EuropeanGetaways.co.uk has no relationship with either RCI or Wyndham Vacation Rentals and we strongly advise that our members do not transact with this organisation.
Timeshare Solutions Ltd (November 2014)
We note that a recently launched timeshare disposal company called Timeshare Solutions is displaying RCI’s logo on its website (www.timesharesolutionsltd.com)
We would like to make clear that RCI has no connection with Timeshare Solutions Ltd or with its website and that Timeshare Solutions is using the RCI logo without our permission.
Let’s Go Tenerife (October 2014)
We have had reports that RCI Members have been cold called by a Tenerife based company called “Let’s Go Tenerife” which has offered them “highly reduced holidays”. “Let’s Go Tenerife” have claimed to be affiliated to RCI.
We would like to make clear that RCI has no connection with these cold calls or with “Let’s Go Tenerife” and we strongly advise that RCI Members do not purchase anything from them.
RCI has received reports that representatives of Resort Key have contacted RCI Members and have falsely claimed to be calling from "the RCI Relocation Team".
RCI would like to make clear that it has no relationship or link whatsoever with Resort Key and that any claim by this company that it represents RCI is entirely false. RCI strongly advises that its Members should not have any dealings with Resort Key.
Resort Care Europe
RCI has received many reports that employees from the above organisation are contacting RCI members and are fraudulently claiming to be calling from RCI. We believe that this organisation is linked to Resort Servie Care (which used similarly dishonest sales methods). We would like to make clear that we have no relationship or link whatsoever with either of these organisations and that their claims to represent RCI are entirely false. We strongly advise that RCI Members do not have any dealings with them and that they let us know if either of these companies attempts to contact them.
Easy Consulting SL - Spain and UK
RCI has received reports that this organisation is contacting RCI members and is falsely claiming to be calling from RCI.
Easy Consulting SL operates or is connected with the following brands: The Gift Company, Bonus Week Breaks, Resorts Direct, Direct Resorts International, Extra Weeks, Extra Time Online, Sky Breaks, Sponsored Weeks, Sponsored Breaks, The All Inclusive Club, Anu Holidays and The Ultimate Holiday Package. Please note that RCI has no relationship or link whatsoever with this company or any of the above brands and that any claim by this organisation that it represents RCI is entirely false. We strongly advise that RCI Members do not have any dealings with Easy Consulting SL and that they let us have details of any cold calls they receive from it.
RCI is aware of the above organisation which uses the website www.rciviajes.com.
RCI would like to make clear that it has no relationship or link whatsoever with “RCI Viajes” and that “RCI Viajes” has no right to make any use of RCI’s name or logo.
RCI is taking steps to stop this abuse by “RCI Viajes” and strongly advises that RCI Members should not have any dealings with “RCI Viajes”.
Update 1st October 2013
In light of the activities set out in the paragraph above RCI commenced proceedings against both Resort Care Europe and Resort Servie Care at the Mercantile Court in Valencia in late 2012.
Following a hearing of the matter, on 30th September 2013 the Court ordered that:- (i) both Resort Care Europe and Resort Servie Care should immediately stop using RCI’s name; and (ii) they should publish the Court’s order in two national British media outlets. Resort Servie Care was additionally ordered to pay RCI compensation and legal costs.
The result of this case underlines the fact that RCI takes the kind of activities carried out by Resort Care Europe and Resort Servie Care extremely seriously and that we will not hesitate to take legal action to protect ourselves and our members where it is appropriate.
