Diversity Spotlight

September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, and we are proud to have a diverse team of talented individuals, whose varied backgrounds and perspectives make us stronger as an RCI family. This week our Diversity Spotlight shines on Sonia Castro-McMinn who is currently an On Loan Marketing Specialist on the Marketing team based out of our Carmel, Indiana office.

“RCI has always made me feel welcome.”

Being Hispanic/Latinx in the US provides a great opportunity to share my heritage with anyone who is interested in learning about Mexican/Latin-American cultures.

RCI has always made me feel welcome. I have been invited to attend the Hispanic Heritage Month annual luncheon organized by the Indiana Latino Institute. I had the opportunity to do some research to create a presentation about famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, and shared it with several RCI peers last year. I feel my opinion is heard as I have the opportunity to suggest activities/ideas of things to see/do/talk about every year during HHM.

LIFE OUTSIDE OF RCI…
I try to attend events hosted by Latino organizations (Mexican Independence Day at Garfield Park, Dia de Muertos at the Indiana State Museum, etc.). I love live music. I am a huge concert fan and very often attend concerts. I do truly hope we can have live music back some time next year.

SONIA’S FAVORITE TRADITION
Dia de Muertos is my favorite tradition. It has a strong meaning in Mexican culture as it combines multiple cultural factors like music, food, decorations, and most importantly, the idea of sharing family time, even after our loved ones have passed.
