One Day in Keystone

Just a two and a half hour drive from Estes Park, take the day and visit Keystone, a more urban mountain town in the famed Summit County. Whether you are looking to hit the slopes or find some alternative activities, here are some ideas to get you started.

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. | Breakfast: Snag a late breakfast at the Haywood Café – home to the best Bacon Bloody Mary in Summit County. A local favorite for the past decade, Haywood Café’s menu has everyone’s breakfast needs covered from sweet to savory.

Noon – 2:00 p.m. | Hit the Trails: If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your fancy try renting snowshoes and enjoy jaw-dropping views as you hike the trails at Keystone Nordic Center. With up to nine miles of groomed trails and more than 35 miles of nearby trails throughout the White River National Forest, make sure you are planning to visit in season (December – March) for this special winter activity.

3:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Lunch: After an afternoon of adventure, take a late lunch at Kikapoo Tavern. A mainstay within Keystone, explore a wide variety of food options within a ski lodge tavern atmosphere.

4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. | Ice-Skating: Visit the largest maintained outdoor ice rink in the U.S. with ice-skating at Keystone Lake. Warm up at the on-site Adventure Center with snacks, arcade games and lounge area.

6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | Dinner: Round out your day-trip with dinner at the Snake River Saloon. This well-attended local “haunt” offers steaks and seafood in a cozy atmosphere – perfect for a day of outdoor adventure.
