Chalong is located on the east-central side of Phuket. It is a colourful combination of a port, residential area and shopping hub. Chalong is a departure point for the many surrounding islands such as Coral Island with fantastic diving and snorkelling opportunities. Visit the Ao Chalong Yacht Club, whom organise regular sailing races, and its bar is a favourite spot for sailors to swap yarns and party. Sitting between Chalong and Kata, you will find Phuket’s Big Budda, one of the island’s most important and revered landmarks. Standing 45 metres tall, it is easily seen from far away. Located in Chalong is the Phuket Bird Park which is located on a hillside which offers exotic flora, winding paths, odd memorabilia, three cafes, a souvenir shop and hundreds of beautiful birds from all around the tropical world.
