There is much to do, with fishing, horse riding, cycle and canoe hire all available locally. The town itself is renowned for its literary festivals and indeed is known as the book capital of the world, with its many interesting book shops. There are art galleries, antiques and lots of independent shops with local produce. You'll not be short of great places to eat, with pubs, bistros, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes aplenty.
