Bury St Edmunds, with its cathedral and abbey ruins, also offers outstanding examples of Georgian architecture, particularly the Theatre Royal, built in 1819, a rare example of a Georgian playhouse. There is a launderette, and also an excellent range of shops, restaurants and pubs including the Nutshell, England's smallest pub nearby. National Trust properties can be found at nearby Ickworth Park and Anglesey Abbey and Gardens. Also worth visiting are Newmarket for a day at the races, the city of Cambridge and Ely with its 12th century cathedral. Shop and pub/restaurant 500 yards.
