Many sailing schools are based nearby, or for visitors who have their own small boat, there is hard standing at the cottage & a public launching hard at nearby Swanwick. The village has a fully restored working flour windmill, & visitors are able to buy flour to make their own bread! Walks can be enjoyed along the river & Hamble common has 55 acres of coastal heath land for nature & wildlife lovers. A short drive to many day trip locations, including Southampton & Portsmouth for good shops & maritime history, the cathedral city of Winchester & the New Forest National Park with its famous ponies, great for walks & cycling. Visit Hamble-le-Rice, a pretty seaside village with cobbled streets, independent shops & restaurants, & harbour with passenger ferries across the estuary to Warsash. Alternatively, the ferry can be taken to the Isle of Wight, or the city of London is around an hour by train. Cottage is only 10min from Southampton airport & station. Beach 1 mile. Shop & pub 300 yards.

Directions from Major Airport to Resort

Leave the M27 at junction 8 (signposted Southampton East, Hamble), then turn left off the roundabout and after 50yds, turn right into Dodwell Lane. Proceed over the M27 and at main A27 go left and immediately right along Long Lane past the Adelaide Veterinary clinic. Proceed up Long Lane past the primary school on the right until the T junction. Turn right at the T junction onto School Road. Proceed 200yds past Kew Lane. Lavender Cottage is the third house on the left, opposite the telegraph pole with a mirror.
