Known alternately as the 'City of Lakes'or the 'Venice of the East', Udaipur is located in the state of Rajasthan in western India. Lakes, temples, forts and palaces attest to its rich history and cultural legacy. It is best known for its Rajput-era palaces, including City Place, a series of palaces built on the east bank of Lake Pichola at different times from 1559, and Lake Palace which comprises an entire island in the same lake.
