The North Island of New Zealand is where the majority of New Zealand’s population resides – home to Auckland and Wellington and around 75% of the country’s total residents, it’s a hub for business and media. However, it draws a crowd for more reasons than just this.
Water lovers should head straight to Lake Taupo, the largest lake in the entire country and home to some of the best sailing, kayaking, jet boating, white water rafting and trout fishing on the North Island. If you’re travelling with those that would rather get their kicks on dry land
then fear not, there’s also mountain biking, sky-diving and some of the world’s most manicured and highly regarded golf courses – nothing better than 18 relaxing holes before jumping out of an airplane.
Heading far north towards New Zealand’s sub-tropical lands, you’ll find Paihia, a seaside town which lies in the heartThe Bay of Islands.This is a place
for the more peaceful outdoor lovers;
those who want to get back to nature the wild way – by swimming with dolphins! There are also many cruising tours on offer and forest treks for both beginner and experienced hikers. This is definitely the
place for those just dipping their toes into New Zealand’s adventurous options.
Turangi is back towards Lake Taupo, but set on the southern side of the water.This is
a great place to visit during the winter when the area becomes encased by snow-capped mountains. If you’re the type who prefers cooler outdoor activities, then this is definitely the place for you.TheWhakapapa ski area – known as the magic mountain – is only a 30 minute drive away from Turangi and many use Turangi as their base before heading to these famous slopes. In the evening Turangi is a mist of hot pools as mountain dwellers head back to sooth their muscles.
