Bula - Welcome to Fiji - this is your place to step back in time, where you can relax, indulge, re-assess and appreciate the things that really matter in life - health, family, your loved ones, nature and a sense of perspective. The heart of the South Pacific, Fiji is a land of blue-green lagoons, lush rainforests, pine forests, mountains and 1600kms of white, sandy beaches. Blessed with 333 tropical islands, Fiji makes for the perfect holiday.
Fiji is the stuff of fantasies, a tropical island boasting stretches of sandy beach, stunning coral reefs and that much-sought-after holiday vibe of true escapism.
It can also fulfil your gastronomic flights of fancy. Fresh, seasonal produce – from farm to table and sea to plate – and recipes rich in tradition and multicultural influences are just another reason you won’t want to leave paradise.
THE MUSTN’T-MISS MENU
There are staples of the local cuisine – rice, sweet potato, taro, cassava, coconut and seafood – as well as time-honoured dishes that you won’t want to pass up on your Fijian holiday:
- Palusami is a traditional dish of corned beef or fresh fish wrapped in taro leaves and steamed in coconut milk.
- Lovo is food slow-roasted over hot rocks in an earth oven. The Fijians take local meats, seafood and vegetables, wrap them in banana or palm leaves and cook them to a tender, smoky goodness.
- Kava is the traditional – and intoxicating! – Fijian drink made from the roots of the Polynesian shrub of the same name.
- Vudi vakalolo – last but never least – is a coconut-infused dessert.
TAKE ALFREScO TO THE NEXT LEVEL: (clockwise from above) Think of the best, freshest food you have ever eaten and now imagine eating it on the beach in paradise... this is Fiji. Another perfect day in Paradise. Catch of the day and everyday, Fiji has an abundance of natural bounty but at the top of the list is seafood. After all the eating, drinking and sun bathing you may well need a relaxing island style massage.
