RCI membership allows timeshare owners to travel the world by exchanging into resorts in different destinations. Though that isn't the only benefit to being a member of RCI, because there are lots of other ways to holiday using your membership.
RCI members are known for getting the most out of their timeshare ownership, by depositing as early as possible to ensure maximum trading power, and often, trading down to book resorts which are given a lower trading power than their owned week, thereby using RCI membership to get more weeks away on holiday. Another way of enjoying more weeks away is to use cash to purchase RCI Extra Holidays, Guest Certificates and more. There are so many ways to holiday with RCI.
Extra Holidays are one of the many benefits RCI members like to use. Extra Holidays give RCI members more choice of where and when they can holiday by making specially acquired accommodation available to them for cash, at great value prices. The best thing about our Extra Holidays is that you don’t have to use your timeshare weeks or points to book them - they are cash only holidays starting at just £229 per week. This means that if you have used all your weeks and points allocation, or would like to add an additional week onto your holiday, Extra Holidays are there to give you another holiday option.
As an RCI member for over 30 years, Penny Loya, has been on numerous RCI Exchange Holidays and Extra Holidays since she joined, with Orlando being her number one holiday destination. She shares her experience.
“We joined RCI in 1986 when we bought a timeshare at The Osborne Club (0210) in Devon, and then later we made a purchase in Marbella in Spain. At that time, for every week you owned in the UK, you could exchange it for two weeks in the US, so of course we made the most of that and have had some amazing holidays!
"For our first visit to the States we went to Orlando and stayed at Sheraton Vistana Resort (0450) and, of course, did the Walt Disney World parks with the children, which we loved. That was the start of our American adventures and we have been back many times since. One of my favourite things is that we can drive to most places there from memory now, as we know the area so well. We have holidayed in Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Clearwater, Titusville and Lehigh Acres in Florida, as well as Hilton Head Island and Houston.
"We always get a two-bedroom property with RCI when we visit the States and have never been disappointed. I often find American properties are of a very high standard and larger than those in Europe. They are very well-equipped and often come with free WiFi, dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers, two bathrooms and three televisions, giving your accommodation a real home-from-home feel.
"We now take the RCI Extra Holidays, as well as Exchange Holidays, because they give us more flexibility as to when we can holiday. We can also choose a really nice property if we want to make our stay a little more special. You can get some really great deals with Extra Holidays, as they start at just £229. Some of them can be pricier, but the cost is clear to see and they are still cheaper than the standard hotel price on the high street. You can easily check this out on TripAdvisor to compare.
"My most recent RCI holiday was in February this year when we booked an Extra Holiday to go back to Orlando. There is so much to do there, even if you don’t want to do the Disney World parks. The shopping is fabulous.
"Other than Disney, the Kennedy Space Center is a must-see, as it’s a brilliant day out. My son-in-law is a BA pilot and he loved visiting there, especially enjoying the flight simulators. It is an easy hour's drive away, or you can go by coach if you don’t have a hire car. If you’re lucky, you might even time your visit to coincide with an actual rocket launch to make the trip even more memorable!
"If you still want to experience the theme park atmosphere, but don’t fancy Disney, then Legoland is a great day out for all the family. My children adored it and it’s much bigger than the one in the UK, so even if you’ve visited Legoland in the UK, it’s still well worth visiting the Orlando Legoland too.
"For something a little quieter to make more of a peaceful day out, the Bok Tower Gardens are beautiful. They are around an hour’s drive from Kissimmee, but are really worth the journey. With almost 50 acres of gardens designed by landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr, a 20-room mansion with a 62-metre Singing Tower carillon (bell tower) certainly provides lots to see and I can thoroughly recommend it.
"Orlando never stands still, there is always something new to see and do and we’re already planning our holiday there for next year!
"Whether I’m looking for RCI Exchange Holidays or Extra Holidays, I always search and book on RCI.com. It can take time and patience to get the resort you want, especially if you only have specific dates you can travel on, but as long as you plan well enough ahead, you should get a good resort. I usually start looking for my holidays around nine months in advance, and then sometimes daily until my preferred dates show up. Roll on the next holiday!"
