Taupo is also known as the trout fishing capital of the world. Now, when you’re
in the number one place for trout, there is no better introduction to the region than a hopping onto a boat ride and going fishing in the majestic lake. Pick up a fishing guide and head out to the crispy waters for your catch of the day. To preserve its delicate and unique eco- system, Taupo has a few guidelines about fishing, so be sure to ask your guide about any rules before you swirl that fishing rod.

A testament of the close relationship between the Tangata Whenua and the land can be seen in the Maori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay on Lake Taupo. Accessible only by boat, these magnificent carvings are more than 10 meters high and tower over the deep waters that are illuminated by the beautiful setting sun. Created by master carver, Matahi Whakataka- Brightwell, when he came to Taupo to visit his mother’s land, this work of art has become an important cultural attraction for the region.
