North Devon’s spectacular coastline.
DEVON
Devon has such a diverse and beautiful natural environment combined with a mild climate that it’s not hard to see why visitors return here year after year.
Two coastlines provide miles of sweeping golden beaches presenting spectacular cliff top walks. The Exmore and Dartmoor National Parks offer ideal prospects to explore some of natures best unspoilt open regions and the timeless Devonshire countryside is a peaceful setting of farms, fields and dense overgrown hedgerows teeming with wildlife who inhabit them.
Delightful towns, charming old villages and busy fishing harbours are perfect for a traditional British seaside holiday. There are beautiful gardens, castles and gracious homes to explore.
North Devon has some of the premium sandy beaches in the British Isles including Woolacombe, a blue-flag beach, which was recently voted one of the world’s top ten. Quaint harbours at Lynmouth, Clovelly and Ilfracombe provide a charming contrast to the spectacular coastline including the Hartland Peninsula where the coastal path follows dramatic cliffs and tiny coves.
There is a unique collection of English parish churches in North Devon. They are free to visit and include irreplaceable
examples of architecture, archaeology and art across 1,000 years of history.
National gems Rolling fields dot the landscape throughout Devonshire; Clovelly clings defiantly to it’s steep hillside setting; The Union Jack proudly waves over the family favourite beach of Woolacombe; Plymouth’s picturesque harbour.
Devon’s always been known for its fabulous food. Its farms and coast produce some of the best fresh produce in the country, and it boasts wonderful tearooms, great foodie pubs, and one of the top-rated fine-dining restaurants in the UK Michael Caines’ Gidleigh Park.
And Devon now has another big foodie draw: Plymouth. This up-and-coming coastal city has become a celebrity chef restaurant hotspot, with diners able to choose from Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall, James and Chris Tanner, Gary Rhodes, Mitch Tonks and Anton Piotrowski. So
if food is your thing then be prepared for some gastronomic courses that are sure to ignite your palate.
