CORWALL
This is a land of myths and legends, from King Arthur and his supposed birthplace at Tintagel Castle to the dragons, pixies and giants that roam along the 50 miles of heritage coastline. It also has a more tangible maritime and mining history.
If you love the ocean you will be in your element exploring picturesque fishing villages, drinking local ales in smuggler’s inns, sampling freshly caught seafood, taking on new water sports or simply losing track of time on Cornwall’s 300 or so beautiful golden beaches.
With the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain, you’ll discover tiny Cornish fishing villages, secret coves, spectacular beaches, sweeping bays and dramatic cliffs, plus beautiful moorland and stunning countryside.
ST IVES is a quaint village with cobbled streets and fisherman’s houses. Steeped in unique history, legend and tradition, much of which can be revealed through the physical remains and standing buildings located in the town. Some of
the remains are located in obscure places and others are seldom recognised as being of importance particularly if you don’t
know what you are looking for. One of the best ways to explore St Ives and learn about the town’s rich and varied past
is to take a guided walking tour which can be arranged at the Guildhall Tourist Information centre. Departs at 10am cost $17.15 www.stiveswalks.co.uk/
THE LIZARD PENINSULA
the most southerly part of the British mainland, is a place apart. A combination of the mild maritime climate and complex and unique geology has produced an area with a distinctive character. Take a long walk along the beach and take in the breathtaking views, seals basking in the sunshine and listen out for the call of the Cornish Chough bird. A couple of miles along the road is Cadgwith and quaint little fishing village with a pebbled beach dotted with colourful boats. Pop in for some Cornish icecream you are sure to love it.
Minack Theatre is an open-air theatre dramatically situated on the cliffs at Porthcumo, near Land’s End, and hosts a season of plays and musicals from May to September. This is an awesome way
to go to the theatre. Visit during the day and take in the breathtaking views plus the café serves a fantastic Cornish cream tea. It does get cold at night, even in the summer so take plenty of layers.
Southern Seas The quaint fishing village of Port Isaac, on the North Cornwall Coast.
