LOOK BACK WITH AN EYE TO THE FUTURE: (clockwise from below) You won’t miss First World Plaza, just take the cable car and look for the huge rainbow painted building. The dynamic visuals don’t end at the doorway, Genting Highland gives Las Vegas a run for it’s money in the visual overload stakes. Hours of shopping requires a full stomach. The cable car entry lets you know this is no ordinary shopping experiece. Shop on a mountain top, in a forest just one hour from Kuala Lumpur... crazy.
Perched 1,740 metres above sea level in Malaysia’s Titiwangsa Mountains, Genting Highlands is a glitzy playground where scenic beauty fuses with stupendous architecture and nonstop entertainment. Did we mention that it’s accessible via a breathtaking ride on the world’s fastest cable car? So strap on your seatbelts and make ample room in your suitcase. Let’s get some retail therapy and relax, eat and play.
Relax and play
To call First World Plaza a shopping mall would be a huge understatement. As the largest shopping area in Genting Highlands, it’s also a Mecca for all things fun. Here, you’ll find an indoor theme park, a Cineplex, an indoor waterpark for children, a skydiving simulator, a bowling centre, a haunted house and even a Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum. And that’s not even the half of it. Starworld Casino – a smaller version of the resort’s 18,000 square metre Casino de Genting – also decks the halls of this mega complex. Shopping with
a side of blackjack, anyone? Or maybe it should be the other way around? If you like to mix shopping with exhilarating amusement, this is the place for you.
The aptly named Cultural Village is an area within the First World Plaza that is rich in culture. Comprised of a handful of shops, you’ll find culturally unique trinkets and souvenirs from
Malaysia, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, India, Japan, Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
No holiday would feel right without bagging barrels of gifts for your loved ones back home. Make it easier for yourself by heading to Gift Castle – a small souvenir shop in Genting Highlands, which sells a wide range of gift items.
Taste
Shopping and chocolate. Need we say more? The Cocoa Boutique at Genting Highlands is part of the Cocoa Boutique and Chocolate Gallery chain – the largest chocolate conglomerate in Malaysia. Find a literal smorgasbord of chocolate variations at this sweet shop from your run-of- the-mill dark chocolate to durian and chilli chocolate for the more adventurous.
