Tunisia 2017

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have updated the travel advice for Tunisia with an update to the Summary and Terrorism sections – extension of the state of emergency by 1 month. The relevant extract of the advice is below for your reference:

Terrorism

A state of emergency is in effect in Tunisia, imposed after a suicide attack on a police bus on 24 November 2015. It has been extended a number of times, most recently on 19 January 2017 by 1 month.
The overall level of the advice has not changed, and there are restrictions in place.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all travel to:

  • the Chaambi Mountain National Park area
  • the Tunisia-Algeria border crossing points at Ghardimaou, Hazoua and Sakiet Sidi Youssef
  • the militarised zone south of, but not including, the towns of El Borma and Dhehiba
  • within 5km of the Libya border area from north of Dhehiba up to but not including the Ras Ajdir border crossing

The FCO advises against all but essential travel to the rest of Tunisia.

Zica Virus

The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for a number of countries in Central and South America, some Caribbean islands and Cape Verde and Samoa to reflect the health advice of NaTHNaC in relation to the Zika Virus. NaTHNaC advises if you are pregnant you should consider avoiding travel to areas where ZIKA outbreaks are currently reported. If travel is unavoidable, you should take scrupulous insect bite avoidance measures, both during daytime and night time hours. Remember to inform your obstetrician or midwife if you are currently pregnant and planning to travel to one of the affected countries or if you have recently travelled to a country where ZIKA is known to occur. You may contact RCI Customer Care for any further assistance you may require.
