The wonderful
West
The best of Margaret River and Dunsborough
Just a three-and-a-half hour drive from Perth, amid rolling green valleys and ancient forests, are the boutique towns of Margaret River and Dunsborough.
It’s here that Western Australia earns its reputation for spectacular scenery. Windswept white beaches meet sparkling ocean while thickly forested hills meet acres of sun-drenched vineyards.
The perfect area for those seeking a romantic weekend getaway, Margaret River and Dunsborough are also ideal locations for a family holiday.
A 45-minute drive from Margaret River, Dunsborough is a pretty seaside town and the ideal place from which to explore the coast. The beaches here, facing north to the Indian Ocean, are more sheltered, offering secluded bays as well as access to some incredible cliff-top walks. Meelup and Eagle Bay are a short drive away and entice swimmers and kayakers with their gleaming blue waters.
If staying at the gorgeous Wyndham Dunsborough Resort & Spa, you’ll have a fantastic view over Geographe Bay and may even be able to spot bottlenose dolphins.
The laid-back town of Busselton is only a 30-minute drive from Dunsborough making it a great location for a daytrip. Situated on a glistening Emerald Bay,
and twice voted Western Australia’s top tourist town, Busselton is famous mainly for its 1.9km jetty. Built in 1865, it’s the longest pier in the southern hemisphere. It even has a train to carry you its length. At the end sits an underwater observatory where you can descend eight metres beneath the ocean and catch a glimpse of the artificial reef that is home to several hundred species of colourful fish.
It’s not just about the pier though, Busselton also invites visitors to explore its old town streets. The arts centre was once an old court house and jail, and the new canal development is the perfect spot to sit in the sunshine to enjoy a beer or glass of wine.
