Discovering
the Amazon
Merlene & Graeme Gordon take an exotic trip to South America.
Our favourite RCI Holiday was the Tour Exchange we did to South America with a Globus Tour group. We visited countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Peru. The tour was so widespread and fabulous I would need pages to take you on this journey so I will limit my comments to the highlights in Brazil. We began our tour in the Amazonian city of Manaus and ventured into
the forest where we stayed at an eco-lodge. Our local guide took
us piranha fishing and crocodile hunting. We learnt how to identify various plants by smell and the local indigenous tribe showed us their lifestyle and culture.
Our next destination was Rio de Janeiro. After the Amazon it was
a complete contrast with its huge range of socio-economic classes
and housing. Regardless of class
the Brazilian people are vibrant
and friendly and love to party. We visited the tourist spots, none more magnificent than the Christ the Redeemer statue which looks down on the fantastic city and iconic beaches below. The views were awesome.
Iguassu Falls
Next we went to Iguassu National Park nestled on the border of Brazil and Argentina. The park itself was teeming with fascinating flora and fauna similar to the Amazon but as we wandered through the forest
the falls came into view. They were absolutely massive, beautiful and breathtaking in the extreme. We had been to Niagara Falls on a previous RCI exchange but Iguassu Falls were spread over a wide area and blended spectacularly with the natural environment. This was indeed the most memorable moment.
